Jonathan at a glance:
Where were you born? Barrie Ontario
What Church are you at? The Park Pentecostal Church (Sherwood Park)
How long have you been there? 5 Months
Q: What’s your favorite city to visit?
A: New York City. I think it’s the coolest city in the world!
Q: Favorite Movie?
A: Hot Rod - Because well… “I like to party”
Q: Favorite Youth Ministry moment?
A: If I had to pick, it would be when I threw up in front of 35 grade 5/6 students while I was a judge for a baking competition. Not that spiritual... but hey, memories were made and it was a discussion point with these student for months. That was the first AND LAST time I put a piece of cake made with Sardines in my mouth.
Q: What’s your least favorite fast food joint?
A: Subway. Too much of a good thing very quickly becomes a bad thing
Q: Any pet peeves?
A: 1. People who chew with their mouths open
2. When the thing that I want to order is not supported by Amazon Prime.
Q: What’s the biggest mistake you ever made in ministry? What’d you learn?
A: Telling a student who is notorious for being picked up late that I would drive them home so that I did not have to wait for their parents to get to the church. This was not necessarily the mistake as I had a good relationship with the parents. The mistake was not asking the kid if he had a way to get into his house once I got him home. We spent 1.5 hours in his driveway talking about the same video game that he got for christmas while we waited for his parents to get home with a key.
What did I learn? Good things come to those who wait & you can only talk about one thing for so long before it gets awkward for everyone.
Q: What do you enjoy doing outside of youth pastoring?
A: I love photography, graphic design, music, and eating pizza buns… I love pizza buns
Q: What’s the best event you’ve ever done with students?
A: Nerf Wars. It was some of the most fun I’ve had working with students
Q: What’s your biggest ministry struggle at the moment?
A: The balance between school, ministry, and marriage.
Q: If you could gather all the youth pastors in our province in a room, what would you want to say to them?
A: First off, thanks for doing what you do. Second, Get your students excited about Jesus and what He has done for them. This is the only way the gospel is ever going to spread.
Q: Is there something that the youth pastors of the province can be praying towards for you?
A: That God would give us at The Park Church wisdom to effectively reach the people of Sherwood Park. They need Jesus, and we need God to show us the best ways for us to share HIM.
Q: Where can people connect with you online?
