Youth Pastor Highlight: Sam Acey

In an effort to get to know our tribe around the province here's a quick interview with Sam Acey. Sam, along with his wife Haidet, serve as the youth/young adult pastor at Living Faith Pentecostal in beautiful Lloydminster (that's 'minster' not 'minister'). You can follow Sam on Twitter here.

  1. What’s your full name? Samuel Eli Acey.
  2. Do you have any nick names? Sammy, Pastor Sam (legit, since grade 9).
  3. Where did you grow up? Lloydminster.
  4. What’s your favorite TV show of all time? Friends.
  5. Do you remember when and where you were called to ministry? At a Sunday Night service in grade 12 at my home church.
  6. What’s the biggest mistake you ever made in ministry that you look back at and laugh now? Not being safety conscious. For example: letting teens jump their sleds over a 3.5 ft sign, with a metal fence at the bottom of the hill.
  7. Have you ever left without a student on an event/camp/retreat? Nope, but close. We were all ready to leave the hotel parking lot at YC one year, and then we notice 1 guy is missing. Everyone else is strapped in. I go back up to the room, and he's still sleeping! I gave him 3 minutes to get ready, and I think it took him 2.
  8. What do you enjoy doing outside of youth ministry? Hanging out with my wife and our dog, playing and watching sports, and gaming on my phone.
  9. What’s the worst injury that’s happened to a student at youth group? A guy blew out his knee playing dodgeball. His mom had shown up for an unrelated reason literally 10 seconds prior. The ambulance showed up and put his knee back in place, and everyone present could hear him screaming in pain...even though we had taken everyone to another room.
  10. Yea or nay to all-nighters? Nay.
  11. What’s the hardest part of being a youth pastor? Getting the teens to buy in to the church as a whole, rather than just the Youth Ministry.
  12. What’s your favourite part? Having the teens tell me about their experiences with God that I had absolutely nothing to do with.
  13. Is there anything that you’re really excited about in the near future? Getting the teens in to see an Edmonton Oil Kings game.
